Mar. 12th, 2011 01:21 ami remain anti-american red cross and would encourage any one who wants their dollars to go toward those in need, to be the same.
i don't think it's funny that i JUST said on thursday about how i feel about ARC and people's dedication to them, despite history constantly repeating itself.... but it's something.

Date: 2011-03-12 05:00 pm (UTC)i can almost understand the weird tumblr meme, which i have no idea about so maybe i'm off base, because that *is* the salvation army and "clearly" red cross = salvation army. (i can also see frustration wrt blood donations, but that's not a missive from red cross.)
but yes certainly the money thing. (i think they have yet to respond to a disaster without getting creative with their bookkeeping.) also the creepy military connections thing. also the constant attempts to bully the international collective thing wrt policy, etc. the accessibility of a lot of this seems to have gone down. :(
i'd posted about my feelings about them like 6 to 8 years ago here, when i was still working for them, but i seem to have not properly gone back to tag it. iirc, at the time, there was still controversy with international not really budging on the letting israel unequivocally join in the game with the red magen david, even though IRC had long ago decided that it wasn't efficient to have a half dozen different symbols, which is the path that would end up happening.
the non-religious red crystal is used now in a lot of places to help minimize drama rama, but not as discussed elsewhere to avoid the drama.
