on boston legal and abortion
Nov. 10th, 2008 11:42 pmnow, i know better than to take boston legal seriously. no, really, i know better.
i know that watching it will make me have to sit on my hands at least once an episode so as to refrain from throwing the remote at the tv.
i know this.
but, today's, what the fuck?
i don't know.
maybe i'm taking it too strongly that candace bergen('s character) was written to throw a fit first over a 15-year old wanting an abortion and then because she thought the girl wanted to terminate for reasons related to sex-selection - and felt so strongly she interrupted the judge's decision to make her (rather anti-asian) sentiments known.
(the show was about parental consent. also, bullies and weird people/aspergers, but that was the other case.)
i mean, the behavior is angry-making the way it is. but coming from the woman who played murphy brown to be going off on the evil side of abortion, i don't know, it just seems more sinister. like dan quayle won....shudder
and then busting out freakanomics ("crime went down after roe v. wade because the poor babies weren't being born to grow up into criminals") as being legitimate science, particularly in light of the above?
and none of the above is writ as though i think that terminations are always easy choices. or that some women don't later regret the course they took.
but blah.
the events of the day also did not help.
