i still haven't done that beliefs/stance meme.
but i went to [livejournal.com profile] hip_republicans and am now feeling too disturbed so i decided to do a montage, with commentary, of respones from there instead.
this is how i choose to amuse myself, i suppose.
and no, these aren't all necessarily the most incendiary of responses. just sometimes.

but, honestly, i mean "The war in Iraq?: Our government is looking out for us, we should be there " is only just the beginning (or middle, if you will) and i simply must share.
so here we go...

Abortion?: not good at all, childbirth is natural..it should stay that way i really don't understand this.then again, i also don't understand unless it's incest or child rape, it is wrong, it's killing a baby. because, apparently, if it was incest or child rape, that makes it not a baby, when otherwise it would be
Death penalty?: eye for an eye...the death row wait should be days, not years this one scares the bejesus out me. HELLO?? there's a reason illinois put a moratorium on executions.
Prostitution?: Legalize and unionize. this poster was the most decent of the ones i read
Alcohol?: drinking age should have stayed 18
Marijuana?: I hate stoners
Other drugs?: there should be harsher punishments
Gay marriage?: an oxymoron if I ever heard one...should not happen yay for oxymorons!
Illegal immigrants?: unless they're legal, get the fuck out i'm not 100% sure what "legal" means here
Smokng?: I dont smoke...my parents do, they know theyre killing themselves
Drunk driving?: Current laws are probably as decent as it'll ever get.
Cloning?: Isn't that blesphamy? huh?
Racism?: this word gets tossed around way too lightly these days ahhh. now i remember why certain people annoy the shit out of me
Premarital sex?: God's designed sex for a man and his wife. w00t!1!
Religion?: Relegion is man's attempt to reach God, having a relationship with Jesus Christ is God's attempt to reach man. because it's all about the jesus
The war in Iraq?: all for it; Iraq is better off now, definitely so this one gets two answers,. yay!
Bush?: George H. W. Bush and Jeb Bush are smart cookies, depends upon what standard you are saying this W. isn't that intelligent of a guy, but he has his convictions and i admire that over someone, like liquid, shapeshifts to fit his surroundings (kerry). i mean, ze does have a point here. . .and see i'm not alll liberally biased! though i thnk he still gives W more credit than he deserves.
Downloading music?: Stealing sends me on a guilt trip; and yes, it is stealing hrmmm
The legal drinking age?: lowered...if you look at different countries who dont have a drinking age, they have less alcoholism
Porn?: it's corrupting ruining lives. now, if it's corrupting AND ruining lives or corrputing lives that are already being ruined, i do not know.
Suicide?:not an option i find the response to this one grotesquely humourous just on the sheer ignorance factor.

I avoid places like that because they make my brain hurt.

Frustration is trying to explain to a anti-abortionist why they are essentially the same as a far-radical PETA activist.

(yeah, I'm a vegetarian, but absolutism is for fossils.)

someday, i will learn to just say no to going to such places.

ahhh. but how can an anti-abortionist be anything like those crazy super-left peta people? : >

Because both take absolutist positions about the sanctity of life. Neither group understands things about reality.

I don't know anyone who things abortion is a great thing, but sometimes it's the best available alternative. The absolutist position fails to recognize that 40 to 60% of all pregnancies result in spontaneous abortion - because of genetic or developmental problems, the mother's ability to maintain a full-term pregnancy, or environmental factors like nutrition, stress, or (all too often) physical abuse. As for induced abortion being 'natural', most (if not all) "pre-civilized" human cultures have extensive herblore on how to prevent or terminate unwanted pregnancy, and many non-human animals have the ability to spontaneously abort when needed (stress/economics), and some seem to even have some knowledge of what plants to eat to help the process.

The PETA people (or at least some of them) seem to be absolutist in a similar way, refusing to acknowledge that others can possibly legitimately have differing opinions. I have been a vegetarian for primarily ethical reasons for almost 30 years, but I see no need to rail against people who eat meat. I do, however, gently make people aware of the conditions in feed lots (cattle standing in piles of manure), the effects of feedlots on the environment, the health problems factory farming and slaughterhouse conditions cause for people, the wastefulness of grain-fed cattle, etc. That said, while I have my own private values, I am not going to tell someone who eats environmentally responsibly acquired meat that they should not do it - I recognize that my values are mine - if I respect others, I cannot impose those values on them. The most I can ask is that they behave both conciously and ethically according to their own value systems - and that they hold enough respect for others that they allow others the same level of self-determination.

Well, I for one think abortion's a good thing. Especially ex post facto, in up to the three-hundredth trimester. Especially for those who describe themselves as [livejournal.com profile] hip_republicans.

:P

I'm going to say better.

Conservatives can be cute. For example, it frequently occurs to me that I'd kind of like to do things to Ralph Reed that would make him want to kill himself in shame.

On the other hand, [livejournal.com profile] hip_republicans is, to lift one of their own answers, an oxymoron. Kind of like "hip tax attorneys" or "bitchin' librarians" or "goth soccer moms". Or "honest politicians who really only have your best interests at heart".

actually, to be fair, I know a bitchin' librarian.

good point then.

though, i think i'm going to make it my life mission to find a "goth soccer mom", just to amuse myself.

i was actually being faceitous asking, but, dang, that's an in-depth reply.

i would have just said they're both crack-headed groups who want to force their world-views upon other people.

Relegion is man's attempt to reach God, having a relationship with Jesus Christ is God's attempt to reach man

So ... God's having a relationship with Jesus Christ? In an attempt to reach man?

Setting aside for the moment that this "relationship" is incestuous (in one respect; in another, it's autosexual) and likely homosexual (Jesus being male and God, at least in their view, being either male or bigendered), and that there's no such thing as "relegion", it also seems to be in vain. How exactly does God having a relationship with Jesus allow Him to reach man?

Oh, I see. Man having a relationship with Jesus Christ...

pesky grammar...
