went to the bk library today.
i plan on sleeping half the day tomorrow and then going to see the sunshine movie, so i wont make it to the library on sunday. it had to be today.
and, anyway, i needed something to get me through this overnight at the second job (the dv shetler). so what do i go and get?
the decline of males by lionel tiger. (i swear, that has to be the fakest sounding name in awhile.)

i mean, as if i didn't go and get pissed enough while torturing myself watching playing it straight. (i couldn't even handle not flipping the channels while the show part was on, it was that bad. but the only alternative was the computer-generated "cartoon" that was, somehow, even worse. don't get me started on that one. bahhhh.)
i wanted to see how bad the gay/straight show was though. blame it boredom. morbid curiousity. but mostly, i'd say it's more than just a tad bit of mental masochism. it doesn't matter. the notion alone is just. . . No. they have to go and drag up a twit of a woman from appleton fucking wiscsonsin who seems to think that if a guy doesn't get all flirty with her he's gay. if he does, he's straight. WHAT THE FUCK?
i'm not sucked in. not yet, anyway. not even with the wisconsin ties.
but it was refreshing to see her struggling to see that gay/straight "line" isn't so clear cut. she'd been failing miserably so far with figuring these things out. which is nice and all, but i'm not convinced that's the point of the show. ok, i know that's not the point. afterall, the "masculinity" factor couldn't be cheesier if they tried. and it's fox, so i can't say for sure if they're trying or not. they're just going for the ratings and pushing the lines.
silly ole' murdoch.

anyway, back to my library book. i hadn't beat my head into the wall enough friday night, so i got this sucker. from the dust jacket, i already knew i should put it back from whence i found it, ". . . removed from the responsibility of birth control and with a way to know for certain that a sexual partner is evn using birth control, men have been marginalized in the process of reproduction. they have begun to feel obsolete and out of control. The result is an unprecdented withdrawal of men from family systems, leading to increased pressures on the government to take their place - an arrangement Tiger calls "bureaugamy." As women are forced into the workplace because of the ceonomic demands of single parenthood and decreasing male support of the family, men in turn face confusion about their social, economic, and political roles.
From this original perspective, tiger offers arresting insights into:

  • why men are drawn to violent spectator sports - or violence itself;

  • why people are marrying later, divoricing more, and having fewer children, if any;

  • why both left and right, both feminists and traditionalists, miss the pint when they argue over abortion, single motherhood, and sexual behavior;

  • why the "gender gap" is truly biological, not political

  • if i had any intelligence, i would have dropped this like the piece of shit it is from this part alone . but i'm not bright, contrary to what others might belive.

Challenging th most basic assumptions about male-female relationships, The Decline of Males provides valuable lessons for parents to teach their sons - and their daughters - as we enter the twentieth century. . . . ."

already on page 3 i'm screaming, ready to flush the book down the toilet, having to restrain myself from throwing the thing out the window, (actually, not much restraint was needed. lucky for me, my living room is in the middle making it window-free. getting up to go into my kitchen or bedroom, opening the window enough to toss something out, was just to much work ..... ". . .An imprecise but effective group called "feminists" has redfined how worde may be used or forbidden to be used in discussing sex. They have become allergens, evasions, and statements in themselves. Women have appropriated and renovated public dialogue. They own a certain echelon of discourse the way medieval churchmen governed Latin or Microsoft's MS-DOS became the modern universal language of compuation and, in effect, of nearly all formal communication." does this mean i've stopped reading? noooooooooooooo. of course not.

i'm not sure if i'll make it to the journey's end with this one. i'll try. it is important to know your enemy better than your friends, in a way. but a girl can only take so much headache.
