it's about a preppy white woman getting sent to prison (for drug trafficking) and the people she meets there and their stories. i forget who with a "big name" is in it... the pie guy from american pie .... the red-head from that 70s show (except her hair is black).... kate mulgrew aka janeway, actually..... laverne cox (an actual transwoman shockingly playing a transwoman)
it's also a show where you can go for SCENES and consistently pass the bechdel test (in which 2 female characters have a conversation about someone or something other than a man.)
the show does have its faults. but relative to much of what is commercially available...
