My inner NYer lives in the East Village, further damning my father for selling my grandmother's Gramercy Park East apartment and not holding on to it for me...!

It was really my uncle. My dad didnt' have the cash at the time to buy out my uncle's share because he had just bought his house in Queens, and my uncle was unwilling to forgo selling the apartment until my dad could buy him out... so a pre-war two bedroom with a key to the park... lost to the poor housing market of 1992...

::sigh:: someday I'll get it back.
