i'm not lying when i say that music helped me get through some bleak days in high school.
i know i've ruminated on this in the past.
my f-list friend
belladonnalin works at a shelter/drop in center for homeless teens (in spokane) and is currently conducting an mp3 player drive.
i know many of you have long since upgraded from a 512 mb player to one that can play a gazillion videos while doing your laundry for you. if you're so inclined, why not give your poor neglected player to someone who will love it as much as you used to?
if you don't have a spare player, money works. there's a paypal at the link below.
i'd be exaggerating a tad if i said "even just one penny, ladies and gentlemen, will help bring music to these youths ears". I would not be lying if i said that even 1 dollar could do the same. (i tried to work in a line that SHE WANTS YOUR TWO DOLLARS!, but am only including it here parenthetically due to its potential obscurity.)
anyway, as she puts it:
Sometimes, I just need to shut it out.
And then it hit me. If I feel like this, imagine how my kids at the homeless shelter feel. A lot of them don't just pass through downtown - they're there all day every day, this shit is their LIVES. They leave, sometimes, to go to school or a friends' house, but these are street kids living in the middle of all of the stuff that I try to screen out. And, for the most part, they have nothing.
p.s. it's tax deductable.
