rkt: (patriotic dissent)
stolen from [livejournal.com profile] final_girl, who isn't even on my friend's list. yet.

to augment My Plan for the republican convention, might i suggest Signal Orange?
from the website:

If truth is the first casualty of war, then this time, truth is war’s atrocity. Whether you support or oppose the war in Iraq, it’s easy to agree that suppressing information is undemocratic, and it belittles the sacrifices that have been made. How can we feel righteous about something we’re trying to hide?

Signal Orange is a project to make the invisible visible — which is a premise and prerequisite for democracy. The goal of Signal Orange is to unveil the faces that the Bush Administration wants hidden — and to stop pretending that its actions in Iraq are inconsequential.

This is a response: Signal Orange represents the dead with the living — wearing T-shirts in their names. There is one shirt for each soldier who died. The front states how he or she died, the back reads, “(Rank) (First) (Last) can’t vote anymore.”

i am SEVERELY dissappointed in the beastie boys.

quoted from the site
It seems that Capitol Records has some sort of new copy protection system, that automatically, silently, installs “helpful” copy protection software on MacOS and Windows as soon as you insert the CD into default systems. I’m not sure exactly what it does yet, but I am sure regreting actually purchasing said media now… they don’t deserve my money if they choose to pull stupid stunts like this. Installing software without your permission sounds like viral malware behaviour to me. I certainly hope the AV companies put signatures into their products for this crap.
They include some sort of uninstaller buried on there for Windows, but I see no such thing for MacOS. "

i expect this shit from, say, i don't know.... metallica. i do not even comprehend it from these boys. and do not even try defending them and blaming capitol. beastie boys aren't some snotty faced garage band just trying to make it big. they could have pulled an (artist formerly knows as the artist formerly known as) prince. grrr.

whether or not you agree with "stealing" music, that's not the point.....(well, ok, it's not the only point.) do you really want to end up with anything on your computer you didn't ask for? especially when that something can very well be harmful to your music-listening device?

(i know this phenoment isn't new. it's just i'm bothered by who's doing it...)
