more mail bags
May. 18th, 2006 01:21 amwhile i was away, mail collected:
i'm not sure how nor why, but my pregnancy place seems to think i should be wanting to make babies. they think this so much that they will give me a "free pregnancy test and sonogram". they will also give me free ritz carlton spa massages. and, once i am in hypothetical labor, an ambulette from my door to the hospital. plus, if i deliver on the first of the month, i can win a $500 baby gap gift certificate. how do i know all this? they've sent me post cards on more than one occasion. and, while i love getting mail that doesn't ask me for money, i'm not sure this qualifies. oh, the beauty of direct marketing!
russ feingold* also sent me a letter. from middleton, wi to brooklyn, ny, he not only asks for money, but also to send back two form letters: one to the prez and one to the democrats.
to little boy bush, the letter goes: (Statement of Principle to George W. Bush)
I am strongly opposed to your decision to authorize an illegal program to spy on American citizens. It is my belief that you have broken the law, you hav deliberately misled Congress, and you have not been truthfulto the American people. I believe the President of the Uinted State smust be held accountable to the same laws as the rest of us.I call on you to take full responsiblity for your illegal conduct.
and another to his own party: (Statement of Principle to the Democratic Party)
I am disappointed that the Democratic Party is not takinga strongenough stand against the outrages of the Bush Administration. It is my belief that the only way to win this November and take back the White House in 2008 is to confront President Bush's dishonesty and illegal conduct. I believe the President has broken the law, has not been truthful, and must be held accountable to the same laws as the rest of us. I call upon the Democratic Party to stand up against the abuses of George W. Bush. ,
the thing about feingold, which i've never actually investigated to verify, so consider this gossip, once upon a time when i was attending the fundie god high school, i was told that he had voted to keep "partial birth abortions" legal, but then, after the fact, attempted to go to The Official Record Books, and changes his vote.
even at the time when i was waflley-on-to-against the whole third trimester abortion concept, going back to change the record of one's vote is just...blah.
still, he has a more liberal record than most. and started from a non-MONEY background. also, his early campaign ads are classic... if i remember correctly, done by the same folks who made jesse ventura's, but now i'm digressing.
but he says *nothing* about human rights, including those related to the homos, reproduction, racism, immigration in his letter.... the websit touts marriage equality and if they have strong stances on anything else, that requires work to find.....
also, i got more address labels, and envelope stikcers, too. yay for mailing fun! and a "keep abortion legal"sticker, if anyone wants it, let me know.
*wi state senator....mailing "not printed or mailed at tax payer expense"... wrting on behalf of the progressive patriots fund.

Date: 2006-05-18 12:30 pm (UTC)American democracy is so corrupt the only way to win is to think like Republicans. They've mastered the spin. Then when they act, people get outraged, but only for a little bit until the spin comes back. How else could a prez w/ only a 30% approval rating NOT be impeached? Hoover had a higher approval rating, and he invited the Great Depression out for dinner, took her dancing, and then slept with her for three long years before FDR came in, and still had a higher approval rating! Granted, polling was a different science back then...
But I'm rambling cause it's 8:30 in the AM and I didn't mean to be awake right now.
hmm
Date: 2006-05-18 10:55 pm (UTC)feingold made the headlines again for getting worked up over voting on the constitutional amendment

Date: 2006-05-19 07:54 pm (UTC)much of it was true though... it's not feingold's fault the american public hasn't figured out that antisemitism is NOT ok and is NOT the fault of biblical jews for "killing jesus".

Date: 2006-05-20 05:23 am (UTC)To procrastinate, about two weeks ago, I started doing these "daily" games on Google. There were 24 puzzles you had to solve. Well, I did 18 of them in one day. And became addicted. So I did the rest. I had one of the fastest cumulative times, so I became a semi-finalist. Then they sent me this neat little cryptex, which I will definately show you because it's so friggin nifty (DVC aside, it's friggin nifty! And worth a lot more than free... If I was an actual fan of the book/movie, I'd pay actual money for it...), which again, I solved in one of the fastest times, catapulting me to finalist.
Now there are five new puzzles that you have to solve in the fastest cumulative time for one of the grand prizes - the biggest and bestest being a two week trip for four to Paris, all expenses paid, first class airfare, staying at the Ritz Carleton, with a backstage tour of the Louvre. ME WANT. Of course, I'll settle for the lowest "grand" prize, a Sony Playstation with a copy of DVC: The Game, and just about anything inbetween (which includes a two month Eurail pass, just the flights to London or Paris, Eurostar passes (the chunnel train), other Sony electronics, etc, etc, etc.). I have until Sunday at 1 pm to solve them, and figured seeing the movie would help me.
BTW, the movie is a) not as bad as the critics said it was and b) a helluva lot better than the book. Making the movie "not half bad" to "almost good". It was a standard Tom Hanks performance, it was a slightly sub-standard Audrey Tautou performance, but it was well played and besides the dialogue being rewritten for the better, almost exactly like the book. However, because they eliminated just about every part of the book that read like a history lesson, it was so much more enjoyable. And the parts that were history lessons were animated.
And as for the cryptex, the answer was printed on the bottom of the box. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not, but I tried two words of my own ("apple" which is the cryptex answer in the book/movie, and "quest" because it referenced a question during the game portion) before flipping the box over and seeing the answer was "grail". Seriously, folks, were you waiting for the first 10,000 who were brilliant enough to flip the box over? Or was my box special enough to have the answer on it?
Anyway....
