this is funny because it's true-ish. i know nobody ever believes me when i say i come from trash-ish backgrounds, but this barbie proves it!

Mattel recently announced the release of Limited-Edition Barbie dolls for the Milwaukee market:

South Milwaukee Barbie:
This tobacco chewing, brassy-haired Barbie has a pair of her own high-
heeled sandals with one broken heel from the time she chased Beer-Gut
Ken out of Cudahy Barbie's (discontinued) house. Her ensemble includes
low-rise acid-washed jeans, fake fingernails, and a see-through halter-
top. Also available with a mobile home.

but no, really. i still {heart} south m'waukee.

I haven't been to Milwaukee in over 20 years (my dad grew up on South Superior, about 6 blocks south of South Shore Yacht Club (oy, I'm not sure what my choice of landmarks says about me). I used to visit relatives up until my grandfather died in 92.

I was surprised how much of it I got. Bay View used to be German, Polish, and a smattering of Italians, if I remember correctly, though.

milwaukee overall still has large segments of 2nd generation polish and german folk.
a lot of the more affluent white people are fleeing the city-proper and running further away from those Scary Others.
