rambling post is rambling

i was reading this writing on A Separate Peace turning 50 ... a book about two boys at a boarding school and inter-male relationship (small r, or is it?) drama. and i swear when i read it in high school for 10th or 12th grade English (it was the same teacher, and mostly the same classmates- being that it was a graduating class of about 50), the discussion of le gay was all but verboten... which is what i remembered as i was reading the article. granted, the broaches of the gay as subject were in the form of jeers by male classmates, which were dismissed not for being derisive but for sugesting we'd be reading a homo-book. y'know, being that it was a god-school and all.

and it's the little things, that are really big, that add up to a wholly unsafe and unwelcoming environment.

and, damn, but i've repressed a lot.
