Just read a book on Russian "kompromat"... they like using surveillance and generally have no norms regarding privacy. Why should I expect some Russians to respect a terms of service agreement and not data-mine my locked journal accounts? Actually, I should expect them to do just that... I love Russians, but in love comes knowing, and with knowing comes, well, distrust when it comes to matters like privacy. Sorry.

and you've been trusting an *american* company to respect any of that all this time?

there is no such thing as privacy on the internet.

Not that I trusted an American company, it's just that Americans are much better at concealing their intents... Russians flaunt their data mining... ::sigh:: its like why i don't wash my hands after being on the subway: theoretically, everyone else's hands have touched really nasty stuff before touching the same pole I was holding on to, but I don't know about it, so I don't wash my hands. Very different than if I saw someone wipe snot all over the pole. then I'd wash my hands.

I am very nervous about this what with the flagging and some of the changes they are making and the advisory board and the news articles I'm seeing about SUP... I can't find unbiased info though:

The LiveJournal Advisory Board will publish and update on a regular basis a clear a set of aims and values. This will address such vital community issues as privacy, security, taste and decency. It will also provide a forum to consider any relevant legal, political or religious concerns.

i saw that. it seems to be a bit of a mess all around.

i'm just ....satisfied(?) they announced this now rather than after i invested in another yearly paid account.

i have no faith.

...yeah, i get that.... i'm just generally more trusting (?) of the evil i (think i) know than that which i do not.

bwhahahahahahaahahahahaha.... I'll never get enough of those "In Soviet Russia..." jokes... Every Monday, I get an earful of academic "In Soviet Russia, guys, things were bad but compared to capitalism, not so bad." In thick Muscovite English. It's fabulous.
