At Least One Dead, 20 Injured In Manhattan Steam Pipe Explosion

if this had happened 2 days ago, my ass would have been stuck at work with miserable kids/parents.

if this had happened 3 years ago, i very easily could have been dragged into the middle of the mess.

being that it happened today, i was already off the train, had picked up my drugs (from the official pharmacy), gotten a bite to eat, and was sitting in a chair talking to others when i heard the news.

fun times.
why the fuck, though, are some of the first comments on other sites related to "OMGz border control NOW!!1!"

seriously though, i hope those injured heal well and the family of the person killed can find peace.

It's a steam pipe explosion, people. Usually it happens on the small pipes and then the steam comes out the manholes. This time a main blowed up. Edison himself probably installed it. These things happen. It sucks, but they happen.

they happen, but they're testing for absestos around my job area; my lungs are already threatening to strike.
and my ass is going to have to wake up early to try to figure out how im getting to work. boo.

Ahh, that explains the 9/11 masks. I should've grabbed one from the office - we've had them in stock since then. And that would also explain the slight rebellion going on in my lungs right now... the one i initially chalked up to walking half a mile in fog w/o taking albuterol first.
