the view, etc. (or why tv should die)
Mar. 4th, 2006 07:08 pmi was watching the view earlier this week. (shut up. no comments allowe on the preceding statement.)
they had alec baldwin on as a guest. apparently, alec is playing a gh3y role on broadway.
apparently, this is surprising because alec is "a manly man" and, apparently, "menly men" simply aren't members of the gay conspiracy.
i really need to read these memos more often.
i have no problem with flambuouyancy. my problem is with anyone, but especially straight(-identifying) people policing the boundaries of concepts like masculinity and homosexuality. with said people telling me who is/is not "straight" based on arbitrary notions that have no basis in any reality outside of hollywoodland.
(and yes, i know, i know, getting upset at the view is like getting upset at the sun for being so bright/garish, but, well, i'm guilty of that, too. so humour me.)
i'm just so tired of hollywood giving accolades to folks, especially tall, white, able-bodied, rich, heterosexuals who take on roles outside of their experience and get major compliments. all while making sure the world remembers that they are, in fact, not like that.
no. just no. fuck that.
i will admit being amused at the comment that tom cruise is looking to score himself a similar role. everyone in hollywood is doing it, why not him?
this amusement was countered by rage against the comments of one of the host's defending Bush over the whole knowing/not knowing about the possiblity of levy breakage in new orleans. apparently, knowing that there is a strong possibility something might happen is not the same as knowing that said something may happen. go figure.

Date: 2006-03-05 01:12 am (UTC)in terms of the last part of your post... i think damian saw the same episode! he was telling me about how the girl on the view who was on survivor (the young super republican one) is right now one of his most hated people and how pretty much everyone else on the VIEW was even saying how he clearly lied and should be impeached, and she just would not hold up on defending him!
