(the joy of doctor's visits)
Mar. 11th, 2005 08:42 pmsince my ear's been in a funk since last week, i went to the doctor today. true to tradition, it mostly healed itself before i got to the doc's office.
i've seen this doctor before; he's part of the same hippie/yuppie office as my doctor. but he's not my usual doctor*... and he's a bit ... strange. not unnerving or uncomfortable-making strange. just strange. i've referred one other person to him who has agreed with this assessment. i can't entirely explain why he's strange. or what makes me say this. (this isn't why he's not my usual doctor. he's not my usual doctor because i have issues and need a woman doctor to be my primary care when these issues are flaring or when it's of womanly matters.) overall, he's a good over-medication-disliking doctor.
while there, since my ear was attempting to make me look like a fool, i decided to get my co-payment's worth.
also scored:
*1 (+ 1 refill) prescription for plan b. because i have no faith in my luck or self-care abilities. (this was before i read the email from planned parenthood telling me to do this. am i psychic or what?)
*referral for allergy testing. (this doctor has the same (semi-unusual) last name as the dr. strange.)
*food allergy elimination diet. in theory, you eliminate all these foods and slowly reintroduce. however, the list of "safe" foods includes soy milk, to which i already know i'm allergic. so.. i consider this diet-thing a bit suspect until i finish reading it.
*referral to holistic-minded (female) shrink (who theoretically won't be med-happy either if she's on the referral list for this clinic) for when i get to that place where i'm (more) willing to consider going to see one.
* my usual doctor is leaving (me) at the end of the month. she does have a female replacement (with my insurance). i've never met the new doc... usually, i've ended up seeing the female fellow or one of female nurse practitioners... we'll see.
