Is it wrong for the "fat" thing to bother me? The poet could have used "greedy," "privileged," "arrogant," etc.

you forget, or are ignorant of the fact, that i have a b.a. in english. THIS MAKES ME AN EXPERT.
because it's a poem, the poet presumably utilized non-literal language.

"greedy" "privileged" and "arrogant" all corrupt the flow of the poem.

also, the poem is like a half-century old. so the poet was a bit ignorant of offenses.

this doesn't mean 'damn' wouldn't work just as well
