i went to see my maggie estep¹ earlier at bluestockings. she didn't read enough. and i spilled hot chocolate all over my hand. and i hate bluestockings now. ...... maybe not hate. but certainly have no strong positive affections for anymore, now that they've gone and lopped off the feminist part of the radical feminist bookstore gig thing. and the poetry section sucks. and so does their fiction. where the hell am i supposed to go to now to get fucking good feminist fiction? i wanted some (sandra) cisneros or (julia) alvarez for this work thing i've got going on and NOPE! no luck!²

anyway though, i was happy to see mlle. estep do her thang. and i got to see this other poet-chicky-babe, daphne gottlieb³, reading her shit.⁴ she was good. but, it overall sucked as well though because i went straight from work. which means i was dressed in my quasi-professionalesque, conservative social worky clothes. which are mostly fine if i'm just trolling around the city. but they're not my primary choice for facing the world in. and i swear everyone else was nice and casually attired. generally in radical angsty wear. the whole hippie/punk look thing going. etc. etc. etc. except moi.⁵

and now saturday, i've got plans a laying to go see margaret cho.⁶ the revolution tour,⁷ with another someone. more fun with feminism! and another margaret! maybe i need to name one of my kids (that i'm never going to have) margaret. just so she can be destined to go on to be a fucking rad spitfire?
speaking of spitfires, by this time next week, (maybe even by saturday) i should have joined the ranks of red-headed snippets, the world over, albeit temporarily.⁸ my hair is tiring me. and it's been eons (okay, a year) since i've taken a shot at playing with the color. i've never done anything so tame before.

i know a few people who wont step foot into bluestockings since the new format. one of the girls who use to work there now works at a borders. she was going on and on how the store has changed. i still think the store will serve a useful purpose,

the store does serve a useful purpose.
and the store has changed. though, i did find it lacking to begin with, it was certainly something more than it is now.
